Dipteryx odorata
Sometimes known as Brazilian Teak, Cumaru is quickly gaining a reputation for being an outstanding decking wood. Like Ipe, Cumaru is very hard and rot resistant. It is not as stable as Ipe, and because of this, we only sell it in 5/4 (1″ finished) thicknesses.
In our experience, the thinner 3/4″ boards from your typical 1 by material is prone to cupping in dryer climates. All wood moves with season changes, and there is nothing that can be done to stop that; however, adding a bit of thickness will help in this instance.
Cumaru looks great installed by face screwing or with hidden clip fasteners. We can mill grooves for fasteners as well as supply any and all hardware for your deck.
